After the meltdown today in the U.S. House-failing to pass the Emergency Legislation to stabilize our financial markets, everyone is uneasy—waiting and wondering--- what will happen next?
Will it be impossible to get a college loan? A mortgage? Use your credit card? All of these scenarios have been speculated upon…no one knows for sure.
As Chuck Todd, NBC’s political analyst said-“The American people now have hard evidence that Washington is BROKEN.”
What would happen if everyone REALLY had a vote? I know that we are not a true democracy, but a “representative” democracy---but what would happen if the issues of the day were subject to a TRUE referendum of the American people?
If we had the opportunity to jump on the web and VOTE individually for this package, what would the result have been? Of course, this issue, like many other complex ones—escapes the understanding of most Americans. Nevertheless, how would we as a nation have voted?
Regardless of its merits or drawbacks, my guess is that most people don’t see how it will affect THEM PERSONALLY. They still may see it as a bailout of greedy Wall Street bankers-and they would have voted against it.
Now what?
Stay tuned.
