Late Night with Conan O’Brien will air its last show tonight, as Conan takes a leave of absence until he takes over for Jay Leno on The Tonight Show.
Hard to believe that even after all these years, the guy that producer Lorne Michaels plucked out of the Saturday Night Live writing crew and gave his own TV show with no prior experience---has now risen to the pantheon of Late Night TV (sorry, Mr. Letterman)
No one knew this former writer for the Simpsons at the beginning-and the reviews for the first few YEARS of the show were highly critical. You have to give Conan some credit for hanging in there-and eventually growing into the role of "TV star".
With his wildly elevated hair and sarcastic sense of humor, it will indeed be a departure from the Leno years-as Jay never strayed from the mass appeal humor that made Johnny Carson a household name.
Below is a favorite spoof clip of Conan on the way to the Emmys last year-the link is also below if you cannot see the player:

We wish Jay Leno success in his new endeavor-a talk show in prime time! We also wish Conan and Letterman luck as they slug it out—should be fun to watch!
