As a 50 year old male, I have (thus far) resisted the urge to create a page/account/whatevertheheckyoucallit on either MySpace or Facebook.
It seems kinda creepy. I mean, those “social networking” sites are for my teenagers, no?
I’m not out to “hook up” with anyone, don’t really care to share my personal life online (other than this blog I suppose) and I don’t have an overwhelming desire to check into my page multiple times a day or week to manage my “friends”. Of course, my kids tell me that blogging is “so 2006” Well, EXCUUUUUUUSE ME!
There is such a “To Catch A Predator” feel to a guy my age posting this kind of thing.
OK. That said, more and more people (and some of them MY AGE and OLDER, if you can believe that) are espousing the virtues of social networking sites, Facebook in particular. The prevalent reason is that it is apparently a great way to re-connect with friends from high school, college, past jobs, lives—that you haven’t spoken to in years.
I’m also being invited to join LinkedIn, which I guess is similar, but more of a professional networking tool. Maybe it’s ME that’s the tool, but all this talk has me considering the notion of doing it all. Your input is welcome-either in the comments section below or right to my e-mail, which I’ll post below with the daily invitation to have this blog arrive in your e-mail box every day-free!
